Angel Campos clears the Chanticleer bench before the peanuts even settle

Game 2 of the College World Series championship was supposed to be a battle between bats.

Instead, it turned into a battle between coaches and blue.

In the bottom of the first inning, home plate umpire Angel Campos tossed Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall from the game in a moment that left fans, announcers, and probably Schnall himself wondering what just happened.

There was no obvious trigger — no blown call, no bench-clearing brawl. Just a heated exchange that escalated fast enough to send Schnall to the locker room before the team’s first hit.

Then It Got Louder

Enter: Matt Schilling, Coastal’s first base coach.

Not content to let his skipper go quietly, Schilling gave Campos an earful of his own — and that earned him a matching early exit.

Two coaches. One inning. No warning.

It was the kind of scene you usually only get in the 7th with the game on the line and blood pressure at boiling. But here? It was barely time for sunflower seeds.

Who’s Running the Dugout?

According to the ESPN broadcast, Chad Oxendine, Coastal’s recruiting coordinator, was tapped in as acting head coach — which has to be a nightmare scenario for any staffer who came to Omaha thinking he’d be focused on clipboards and chewing gum.

To his credit, Oxendine held the team together… but the energy in the ballpark was clearly shifted.

Why It Matters

This wasn’t just a throwaway midseason tantrum.

This is the national championship.

And while we still don’t know exactly what triggered the ejections, one thing is clear: tensions are high, and the umpire’s leash is short.

For LSU fans? This kind of chaos plays to our rhythm. The more unhinged it gets, the better we seem to perform.

Final Thought

Coastal came to play. But it looks like they brought the fire a little too early — and Campos was ready with the hook.

If this is how Game 2 starts, buckle up.

The rest of this series is going to be spicy.
